A First-Generation student is one whose parent(s)/guardian(s) has not attended a postsecondary institution. If a sibling of the student has attended a college or university, but the parent(s)/guardian(s) have not, the student is still considered a First-Generation Student.
Any individual can self-identify as an Indigenous person if they believe they have Indigenous ancestry. Any student, who believes that he or she meets either the legal definition, or the spirit and intent of the definition, is encouraged to self-identify.
